Conexión Américas is a proud recipient of the following awards:
-
As part of its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative™, Bank of America presented the 2007 Nashville Neighborhood Builder Award to Conexión Américas. The competitive award "recognizes, nurtures and rewards nonprofit organizations [...] helping enrich and improve" communities in the bank's major markets across the country and internationally.
The Neighborhood Builder Award includes a $200,000 grant (paid over two years) to build organizational capacity to function at higher levels of effectiveness. Bank of America's generous award will allow us to pursue the dream of developing a mixed-use building that would include office space for Conexión Américas, additional office/retail space for affinity nonprofit agencies and businesses, and affordable rental units. The award will cover costs related to feasibility studies, pre-development expenses and other costs. (Press Release)
· The national Family Strengthening Award presented by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) in July, 2007. Nearly 300 community-based organizations across the country affiliated to NCLR are eligible for this award. Conexión Américas was the winner for the East Coast Region. The award recognizes “outstanding programs that work to give children what they need most—strong, capable and economically successful families.” “Responding to the varied needs of the families they serve,” According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, winning organizations "improve the economic prospects of working men and women and create the services and networks of support that all families need to realize their aspirations for themselves and their children.”
This award recognized our ENLACES Information, Referrals and Support Services Program for demonstrating measurable results and commitment to the principles of family strengthening. (Press Release)
· Another significant achievement is the success of our homeownership program, which also received a national Best Innovative Partnership Award by NeighborWorks America for our partnership with The Housing Fund. To date, more than 260 Latino families have made the American Dream a reality through our program. Home equity represents the single largest asset held by most Americans. By helping Hispanic families access the most traditional route to building wealth in this country, our homeownership program represents one of the most successful strategies to empower low- and moderate-income Hispanic families socially and economically.
